This is a Project Uptime meta-bug for bugs aimed at preventing entire classes of low-level defects. For example, by using smart pointers and compiler annotations to prevent or detect common programming mistakes, particularly in C and C++ code.

I'm extending this to also be about writing code to detect problems, e.g. assertions and internal consistency checks.
