Steps to reproduce:

Hi I'd like to report a bug with new email notifications which I've been seeing in last 10 versions of Thunderbird/Earlybird. When you receive an email which is then processed by rules/filters and moved to different folder then the email notification in lower right screen displays just a blank box which will be stuck there. Also the email won't move to the destination folder and will stuck in Inbox scratched out. Only way to resolve it is to close whole application and then also go to Task Manager and kill the process. It's very annoying. Please see attached picture for details. Thank you!


Actual results:

-blank new mail notification box stuck on the screen
-email remains stuck in inbox
-requires complete restart of the application (including killing the process in task manager) to restore normal behavior


Expected results:

I guess it would be good if there's some delay (10secs or so) before the rules/filters are applied for incoming emails. For this case that would resolve the problem with blank notification. It might resolve consequent problems with email stuck in inbox and need of restart by killing the process as well as it seems to be related.

Primary cause seem to be the filtering operation, thus moving into that component.

Do you get any messages in the error console? That's in the "Tools" menu (or Ctrl+Shift+J).
You can clear the log before starting such a hanging operation to see only its entries.

Also, in my original post I forgot to mention that this bug doesn't manifest itself every time (looks like only certain type of emails triggers it).

I've never had a filtered message get stuck but your symptoms aren't unique.  See bug 894198.
If you turn off filtering does the problem go away??
