From Bugzilla Helper: User-Agent: Mozilla/4.79 [en] (X11; U; Linux 2.2.12 i386) BuildID: 2002020415 The password is a normal password: 6 ASCII characters. It behaves as if the password were encrypted? Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.launch `Mail & Newsgroups' 2.enter password in the `Mail Server Password Required' window 3. Actual Results: ``Alert: Login to server <hostname> failed'' Even after 4 consecutive alerts you do not get the chance to reenter the password. OK, it wouldn't help anyway. Expected Results: Mozilla should have ``seen'' the correct password and allow access to the IMAP server The same IMAP server works fine with `Netscape: Version 4.79 [en]-20011017'
Severity: blocker → normal
Don't understand the setting `Severity: normal'. I cannot use the MailNews component at all because of the bug.
This bug is gone with build 2002031207 :)
May have been gone with 2002031207, but it is definitely happening with 2002032003
True, it has come back with 2002032107 on FreeBSD 4.4. Thus for me, the severity is "blocker" and I'll go back to 2002031207 which works fine except for the non-saving of paper size and print command. :(
Severity: normal → blocker
I have noticed same problem on linux with 2002032508
Can someone with FreeBSD please confirm this bug? Is this bug limited to FreeBSD?
Keywords: qawanted
Please note that this very ugly bug seems to come and go randomly with the successive nightly builds for FreeBSD4.4, e.g. on the present build 2002032707 it has disappeared.
Maybe it's a error in the build process. Have you tried doing your own build?
No,I haven't since I have discovered the nightly/latest builds. Before, I used the linux-mozilla port which does not fetch the latest source and which is taking 2 or 3 hours to build.
Using W2K, Mozilla 20020311. I had my POP server (Earthlink aka igc.org) repeatedly reject my password this afternoon. I then used Mozilla browser and easily logged into my ISP account with same password, and then I could get my email. I did not have any trouble with the password yesterday or this morning, which were my initial experience with using Mozilla to receive mail. I don't know when this can be reproduced. I don't find any similar bugs reported, except this one. (Until yesterday I'd been testing Mozilla basically in the installation stages, having been practically blocked from using it for email {not absolute blocks, but requiring too much effort and time for someone with my level of involvement} by bugs in email and address book import utilities). Until I feel a little safe with this build, I'm not going to mess with nightly builds.
That's very interesting. So the bug does (randomly) occur on FreeBSD, Linux _and_ Windows and not only for IMAP servers. For the time being, I am too happy with my present build (see Comment#7). If the bug comes back the next time, I'll follow Andrew's advice and try to do my own build and report on this. But as my PC and my fingers ain't very fast I prefer to wait for a good reason to install another nightly build :-)
Platform: PC OS: Windows 2000 SP1 Build 2195 Mozilla Build: 20020617 I am unable to duplicate this problem. Mozilla is able to authenticate against both POP and IMAP.
Is the bug that it doesn't let you re-enter your password or that even though you have put the correct password in it is not authenticating you? If it is the latter then this is probably a dupe of bug 79973
Is this still happening? pi
This seems to have been fixed. I have not seen this in several releases.
I've been working Exchange IMAP server for a while using Trunk and Blackbird Branch builds. It gets correct password without any problem.
Ok, resolving this then Resolving Worksforme per Comment 15,Comment 16
