workaround: compacting the folder brings the messages back.

This is an imap account?
(seems like this should be a duplicate)
Rremoved "not available in context menu" because 1. one issue per bug report please, 2. it's not a common function, and therefore it is intentionally not on the context menu by design
Severity: normal → major
Flags: needinfo?(jmichae3)
Summary: repair folder not available in context menu, clears folder → repair folder clears folder

I've done a many repairs, and never seen what you describe. The folder is initially cleared, but the folder contents are immediately re-downloaded. Makes me wonder if the mail server is behaving correctly. Is this yahoo? (they can be odd)
Summary: repair folder clears folder → repair imap folder clears folder. compact brings it back

Jim, I thought you would reply ^^
Also, you mention compact brings it back. You mean 1. repair, then do 2. compact?
