We seem to repaint the entire page during scrolling when it is dimmed. Is there a plan for how accomplish this effect with decent performance?

I talked about this a bit with Markus on IRC yesterday and I quickly realized that a fix in this area would not be in the realm of my possibilities... Markus did start to poke around a bit to at least get a profile to look at and perhaps even spend a few of his cycles analyzing that. Your help, schedule permitting, would also be invaluable, I'm sure!
