Maybe it would be a good idea to have a knowledge base like:
http://kbase.pmail.gen.nz/search.cfm
and
Microsoft's KB that would be easier for users to find info than Bugzilla.

Does Mozillazine have a KB? Forums wouldn't fix this bug. I meant something like
Microsoft's KB articles for frequently-reported bugs, etc (but allowing comments
at the end of the article would also be nice).

http://kb.mozillazine.org/ , not searchable database, but wiki-style, launched
just recently

Hmmmm... Can people submit their own articles for approval?
It needs a search, along with numerical IDs to go along with the titles so
people can write down numbers for easy reference.

just tested MZ's KB
The search function appears to search titles only
There is no numerical ID. The ID is the page title
It's wiki, so anyone who signed up can edit the pages (it has Revision History)
there is a discuss this page link at the bottom of every page. The discussion
page is also wiki.

Ok. If search also would search text, and articles and topics are assigned
numerical IDs for an easier way to remember the articles (such as writing down
the IDs on paper), I'd be satisfied then. This would also mean we could change
titles later on if we recommended people only link to the ID numbers.

that's developer wiki. This is the (real?) KB: http://kb-upgrade.mozillazine.org/
Reopen. It's a pain to deal with a file-based document system. I'd love to see a
database system where articles are assigned unique id and can be arbitrarily
catagorized and grouped (so that, for example, a Q&A item can be in both Firefox
and Mozilla FAQs).

Ideally, the URLs should be readable. They shouldn't be a transformation of a
title, though, just like filenames on mozilla.org shouldn't be a transformation
of the document title.
For Mozilla and Firefox, it's quite possible that the an article's text would
diverge slightly, even if only to account for the different product names.

It looks like SUMO does solve this need. Closing as fixed.
