User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Android 7.1.1; Tablet; rv:50.0) Gecko/50.0 Firefox/50.0 Build ID: 20161208181706 Steps to reproduce: 1. Don't use firefox for some hours 2. load firefox 3. attempt to load a page (either by search in omnibar, or touching a bookmark) Actual results: New tab appears correctly, but the loading bar does not move, and nothing appears in the tab (white screen). I think i can feel the phone heat up quite quickly although it might be imagination. Expected results: The page should have appeared. It does always work if firefox is swiped away from the Recent Apps and then immediately relaunched.
I am running the latest firefox from Google Play Store, on an ls990 running android 7.1.1 (cyanogenmod). The issue also occurred back on android 6. I am not using a vpn or proxy. Internet access on the phone is reliable (e.g. works in other apps immediately prior to launching firefox). The issue is persistent for some months now.
I assume this also happens when you try opening further tabs, right? Also, what is your tab restore setting (Settings -> Advanced) and what happens if you had some tabs with some content open before step 1? Do they - stop working as well or not? - try reloadinf (progress bar appears) when you switch to them or not? If you can use ADB [1], a logcat of this could be helpful. [1] If you don't have it, it's available from here: https://developer.android.com/studio/releases/platform-tools.html If I haven't got it wrong, on Windows running "adb logcat -v threadtime | findstr Gecko > firefox.log" from a command line should get you the desired log file. On Linux/Mac, just use "grep" in place of "findstr".

No, this happens only on the first tab. Opening a new tab finally allows to open a webpage. This bug is a duplicate of #1290711
> Also, what is your tab restore setting (Settings -> Advanced) My firefox is configured to always restore the last session. > what happens if you had some tabs with some content open before step 1? Do they > - stop working as well or not? Normally the other tabs would work, but sometimes they don't. The definitive workaround for me is to open a new tab. I think we have to differentiate between two "states" of this bug. Sometimes a tab is stuck *while* loading a page (progress bar appears). In this case, neither the actual page loads, nor is it possible to load a different page from this tab. I will upload a screenshot. Sometimes however this happens on a "clean" tab (seemingly no other page loading in background). Any attempt to load a page fails. In both cases one needs to open a new tab, and suddenly everything works.
Ok I tried the logcat command, but it does not work out of some reason... When I type "adb logcat -v threadtime | findstr Gecko > firefox.log" into my command line I only get a new line with a blinking cursor, but nothing happens.
Sorry for that, the correct command line would be "adb logcat -dv threadtime | findstr Gecko > firefox.log".
Here's the log. I hope it's helpful?

Seriously, the mime-type "auto-detect" feature of this bugtracker is ****...
Just use a txt file extension the next time :-) Since you're using a release version, could you please enable "consoleservice.logcat" in about:config and attach another log when you see this again on startup?

Ever confirmed: true
(In reply to Jan Henning [:JanH] from comment #2) > I assume this also happens when you try opening further tabs, right? I had this bug in mind and remembered your questions for the next time the issue occurred (i have to guess it's probably ~50% of Firefox launches for me). A second tab actually loads fine. But in my experience this actually doesn't fix the first tab; if the firefox launch is "cursed", then even closing all tabs (i.e. returning to the homescreen) will break the first tab's load for me. The only workaround that has been successful for me, is to swipe away the app from the Recents screen, and relaunch it. > Also, what is your tab restore setting (Settings -> Advanced) I don't preserve or sync tabs. When Firefox loads, there are no tabs open. (In reply to nucrap from comment #4) > I think we have to differentiate between two "states" of this bug. Any attempt to load a page fails. I experience the same thing, sometimes a progress bar appears and gets "stuck". On my DPI/resolution it's approx. the width of the Back button. But sometimes there's no progress bar, just a blank area.

@Jan Henning: To prevent a further split of the discussion, could you please close #1290711 as a duplicate of this bug?
