I encountered a problem when sending HTML to a list including both Plain Text and HTML recipients. Instead of sending multipart/alternative (as my preferences are set to) it sent text/plain. This would prevent that problem from happening... and might be found useful in other cases too.

Not sure this is a good idea. The format for the list depends on the format for all recipients. A list should be treated as if you entered all the recipients manually in the composer. IMO.
