User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; Win64; x64; rv:42.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/42.0 Cyberfox/42.0.1 Build ID: 20151105140438 Steps to reproduce: 1. Launch Firefox. 2. Visit any website with able files for downloading. 3. Try to download file. Actual results: FF opened new (empty) tab and didn't close this. Expected results: FF closed new (empty) tab.

The problem was detected by users from Russian forum for 52 release version. I checked and confirmed for 52 beta 3 version.

Can you provide a page where this happens? I tried http://7-zip.org/ and clicking one of the download links doesn't open a tab (Firefox 52.0.1, Windows 8.1)

This is caused by multiprocess architecture of Firefox and will be fixed in Firefox 55, see bug 1301056.
