Build ID: 20151105140438

Steps to reproduce:

1. Launch Firefox.
2. Visit any website with able files for downloading.
3. Try to download file.

Actual results:

FF opened new (empty) tab and didn't close this.

Expected results:

FF closed new (empty) tab.
The problem was detected by users from Russian forum for 52 release version. I checked and confirmed for 52 beta 3 version.
Can you provide a page where this happens? I tried http://7-zip.org/ and clicking one of the download links doesn't open a tab (Firefox 52.0.1, Windows 8.1)

52 beta 7. Auto-updated.
This is caused by multiprocess architecture of Firefox and will be fixed in Firefox 55, see bug 1301056.
