I have never seen this before (just installed Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:0.9.9+) Gecko/20020402). I have no way to reproduce it, it comes and goes. Sorry. Sometimes in Win98SE the task bar, which comes up when I move the mouse pointer to the bottom of the screen, is not available any more. ALT-TAB still works. After closing some browser windows it might work again. Closing Mozilla and it does work again. pi
-> XP APPS Could be a dupe of bug 134317 or another regression from the minimize bug fix.

Does not sound like a dupe of bug 134317. I have no idea if it could be related, though. (At least that saved me from reporting just another dupe;-) pi
Boris, do you use full screen mode (F11 key)? If yes, it's bug 127160.
-> law for triage
Assignee: sgehani → law
No, I use normal windows mode (maximized) with the classical theme. pi
Is this Bug a duplicate of bug 127160 ?
me to since 20020329 works for me with 20020328 on NT. This is not a problem of Full Screen mode. I never use it.
No dupe of bug 127160, we are not talking full screen mode here. pi
I am also seeing a possibly related behavior wherein the Nav Window does not respect the Windows Taskbar when it is on (not in auto-hide mode as described here) - essentially in maximized mode the taskbar is underneath the Windows Taskbar and you cannot get to it. It should be sitting directly on top of it in this mode. Probably a different bug however. Evelyn, these are the sorts of Windows taskbar issues I was talking to you about. I think we might need to investigate our behavior here since so many of our users are on Win98.
Reporter, if you create and use a new profile, does the problem still happen?
A new profile does not help. I tested on 2002040403. pi
Reporter, is it possible that the taskbar comes up *behind* the browser window, so that one can't see it? If that's the case, I see this bug too (2002040203 on Win98). You can test this if you don't maximize the browser window and let some space to the left or right border of the screen for some time. If you now move the mouse to the bottom of the screen, you can see the taskbar come up in the area which is not covered by the browser window, but this happens only every once a while. I too can't reproduce this bug. Note: The setup for the taskbar on my PC is to come up *always* in front of other windows, so this is a bug of Mozilla.
The problem only occurs for maximized browser window. pi
I think I can reproduce the problem: 1. Restart mozilla, open Mail/News 2. Get Messages for a account, wait for the popup to enter the password (3. Enter password and click OK) When the password box pops up, the Mail/News window is raised to the top, also on top of the taskbar. If I point on the taskbar, it comes up behind the moz-window. If I maximize the window, I don't see anything of the taskbar anymore, but I think it's working correct, but behind the mozilla window. If I click on the taskbar, it comes back to the front again. Additional mozilla rizes in front of other "Always on top"-windows (eg Winamp). Build 2002040314
I have to correct myself. No I have for the first time seen that even for non-maximized browser window (BTW: No MailNews installed) the taks bar comes up behind Mozilla. pi
I'm seeing this too. NT4 Apparently, this bug appeared as the same time as focus stealing (bug #134317) appeared. I noticed that each time a mozilla window steals focus, it then covers the task bar. What is strange is that other applications does the same. If you click on the task bar, everything is OK until the next...... Let's wait for the fix to 134317.
Depends on: 134317
are you sure you've set your taskbar to always be on top? it's the default, but if every app comes up in front of it...
Daniel: I see the same problem. Mozilla opens a full screen window -> taskbar gets unavailable (taskbar is set to "Always on top" & "Auto hide"). That is it gets behind the Mozilla window and moving the pointer to the bottom of the screen does not revive it. I minimalise the Mozilla window -> no change. I minimalise the Windows Explorer window (usually I have it full screen) -> everything is all right, again. The mysterious part is why Mozilla changes the behavior of the Explorer window? My system is WindowsME and Mozilla build 20020402.
Hi Daniel, I am shure! But I see, the reaction of the PC seems to be as if "always be on top" would be disabled. Can`t anyone find some appropriate keywords?
Bug 134317 has been fixed by backing uot the patch for bug 120155. We need to verify this bug when morning 20020410 builds become available.
I've seen this before in windows, some apps when in full screen go over the taskbar. This usually happens if you set the current window to 'stay on top', it gets a 'Z order' above the windows taskbar. As the mouse pointer does not go over some part of the taskbar and/or it has no focus then it does not slide up. One example of this is ACDsee(R) image viewing software in full screen mode and several others. One way of testing this is to reproduce the bug, then check if you see a 2 pixel line at the bottom of the screen, this line should be over the bottom black line of the mail icon on the left lower corner of mozilla while maximized. If you see this line something else is happening and this does not apply. If you don’t see the line this should be the problem or something similar. Unfortunately I can't test this.
Works for me with Win 98, Build 2002041003 At least I cannot reproduce it the way I described in comment 14.
Run half a day with 2002041003. As Stephan, I don't see the problem any more. Marking as a dupe of bug #134317 *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 134317 ***

Reply to ------- Additional Comment #24 From Boris 'pi' Piwinger 2002-04-11 01:58 ------- With my Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; de-AT; rv:0.9.9+) Gecko/2002041003 (trunk06) there is no problem :-/ 'pi' ,owner or QM shuld close this bug again (I cannot)
Pi, This bug has been fixed by backing out the patch that allows window minimizing Win98. Are you sure that's not what you are seeing ?
Yes, I see exactly the same problem. I can't tell why, but it is happening. pi

I still see it in Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:0.9.9+) Gecko/20020411. It might be an interesting observation, that the Mozilla window actually disables access to the task bar. If I go to the bottom of the screen over Mozilla (not maximized) the taskbar does not come up. If I go to the bottom of the screen on the side it comes up. pi
I did some more testing with Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:0.9.9+) Gecko/20020412. 1) It works on another Win98SE machine. 2) I just installed it again on the critical machine after removing *everything* there was (i.e., profiles and remaining mozilla.org directory). It sitll has this problem. I anyone has a suggestion how to tackle this problem, let me know. pi
I just installed Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:0.9.9+) Gecko/20020414. Now it works. Since nobody else complained I mark WORKSFORME. pi
