RESOLVED DUPLICATE of bug 1245532

People

(Reporter: roelof, Unassigned)

Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Ubuntu Chromium/56.0.2924.76 Chrome/56.0.2924.76 Safari/537.36

Steps to reproduce:

Select "Search Messages" from the right-click menu of a folder or account. Check "search subfolders" and search for all messages containing some word, by selecting "Body" - "Contains".

Actual results:

A message containing the word is NOT found.

Expected results:

All messages containing the word should have been found. It seems this bug (?!) only occurs with HTML messages; plain text messages containing the word ARE found.

I tried some things to solve this problem : disabling all my addons (and restart TB), rebuild the sqlite index by the procedure described at https://support.mozilla.org/t5/Troubleshooting/Rebuilding-the-Global-Database/ta-p/15801 , copy an email message (containing the word) to another folder and test-search there .. nothing helps ..

I'm using Ubuntu 16.04 (Gnome Classic) with TB 45.8.0.
By coincidence this behaviour does NOT happen with HTML messages in the Trash !?
Sadly, body search is not reliable. You're saying that the search works when the message is in the Trash? It sounds like you're using IMAP, right? For local folders it shouldn't matter where the message is stored.

If IMAP, this would be a duplicate of bug 1245532.
Yes, i'm using IMAP. And as far as i know i'm not using Quick Search, but just the normal search dialog -- does it make any difference ?

I think it's unbelievable and unbearable that this "body search" does not work properly in TB : many people will have all their (IMAP) emails stored in a folder tree and they want to find that one email again .. this is a very common situation and normal procedure .. and now I discovered that TB can not search properly inside (IMAP) HTML emails ??? This bug should have some high priority !!! I almost want to conclude : this bug makes TB a useless tool ..

Does any search-add-on exist to solve this problem ?

Same underlying code for "normal" search and quick search, global search (Gloda) is completely different. For IMAP, there is a checkbox "Run search on server", but I'm not familiar with it.

And to add insult to injury: Bug 1259534. Making it high priority won't give us resources to fix it.

Not to my knowledge.
