That depends on the MIME structure of the message. Normally the attachment symbols shows straight away.
I don't think this behaviour has changed since 45.x, so not a regression in 52.0.1.
There are bugs on file which complain about this and the opposite:
Bug 479017 and bug 1200262, also see bug 1177080.
Can you attach a message that reproduces the problem?

It only happens if I sign the message with Enigmail (no paper clip icon on sent folder).
