I had my 1:1 with :drno from an Android Nexus 6. The audio/video were perfect on my side but :drno reported that he heard a severely distorted version of himself talking that sounded like poor or broken echo cancellation. I was using the builtin speakers and microphone. Filing the bug as a reminder to follow up next time from a different phone and see if the problem is reproducible.
Mass change P2->P3 to align with new Mozilla triage process.
Priority: P2 → P3

I'm not sure if I should open a new bug, but:

In both online chat services I use that bring up a browser (Google Meet, Whereby.com), when I use them on Firefox, other participants complain about echo cancellation failing utterly. I don't hear an echo myself, but whoever I'm talking to does.

This is regardless of whether I:

  • Use Krisp as both audio devices
  • Use my Yeti microphone and standard audio devices
  • Use Firefox on my phone (Android) and its internal mic/speaker

I've tried adjusting the mic gain down, but they always get a lot of echo.

Note that this doesn't happen in Chrome or Edge. This is 100% reproducible on Firefox, and is never a problem on Chrome or Edge.

Given today's extreme reliance on chat, it seems this should be a high severity bug. I'm happy to help track down WHY this is happening for me, but because it spans multiple Firefox installs, it seems that it's a pretty critical bug to fix.
