Things are still a bit fluid, but it appears likely that Firefox 57 will be lightly rebranded to "Firefox Quantum". To limit risk and scope, this is going to be limited in-product to just the about dialog. So that should just be a simple image-swap of http://searchfox.org/mozilla-central/source/browser/branding/official/content/about-wordmark.svg with a "Firefox Quantum" wordmark. Timing isn't clear yet, sounds like discussion is still ongoing for doing it at the Beta merge vs. later in Beta. Filing this so we have a place to track the work and latest decisions.
Just to add some color to this - the intention is to theme a set of releases carrying the "quantum" promise around major speed and performance gains. It is likely "Firefox Quantum" will remain in the about dialog for 3-4 releases. To be clear we are not renaming the product - we are theming the releases. The best analog (although not completely identical) is probably Mac OS (Sierra, El Capitan) naming. We believe this allows us to get full credit in the market for the step change in performance in Firefox. There is discussion of a theme to follow "Quantum" themed releases at some point next year, when we think we're entering a window of releases where we are delivering a new promise to consumers. (For example (not real), Firefox Quantum themed releases were about speed, in late 2018 Firefox Carbon themed releases are about privacy/security, etc.)
and it should say "Firefox Quantum" rather than just "Firefox" in _beta_.

Congratulations, Jeff, you're now on the UX team.
Is this owned on the UX side? We need to make the change either tomorrow or after Friday, if it waits it won't be in Beta 1.

Yup - Stephen's going to create this. We've just been standing by.

From today's 57 checkpoint meeting -- goal is to have this early in 57 beta (mostly just to avoid late churn, aiui), definitely not trying to hold this for a late surprise in 57. Also fine if beta 1 goes out without it, the exact timing doesn't seem critical.
To be super clear, no-one will see this until Beta 3, the first beta 57 build we will release.

Does this need to remain confidential? This doesn't seem more delicate than the new logo which already landed in bug 1399691.

(In reply to Dão Gottwald [::dao] from comment #11) > Does this need to remain confidential? We can open this when landing, my initial concern was that marketing might want to play this close for a landing late in beta.
