Details
After a improper shutdown of mozilla, the Mail, Address and IRC Chat functions
are hidden from the component bar and from the window menu.
This happened after logging out of Solaris without closing Mozilla first. To fix
problem, had to reinstall the binary tar ball. After that everything is good.
This happened with mozilla-0.9.9, now using mozilla-1.0 RC1.

I don't know about the "improper shutdown" part, but here's how this happened to
me:
1. I downloaded the "solaris-789" tarball from the nightly area.
(I noticed this isn't up-to-date)
2. It worked great for a run or two (all on the first day)
Then I moved the install directory, and set up a launcher icon
3. then i noticed that the launch panel only has the navigator icon
and also the prefs item for "Mail and Newsgroups" is missing.
4. I downloaded the "solaris-2.6" tarball from the nightly today (the day
after the first download) and I get the same bug.
I have tried to remove
my .mozilla directory, but the start-up scripts keep wanting to convert
my old .netscape / .netscape6 directories. What is the best way to
start mozilla in the "virgin" state?
Am I suppsoed to "confirm" the bug even though I'm not a developer?
I can't from the UI if that's what I'm supposed to do.
Anyway, I'll report the same bug.

Okay -- If I reextract the original tar file, this bug goes away.
But then if I just mozilla and quit it (using the window-manager/title-bar
quit button) then my install directory gets corrupted, and I lose the
mail icon in the launcher bar.

Sorry for entering lots of little comments instead of waiting until
I had finished investigating. I realize I might be generating spam.
Apologies in advance. I think I'm dong investigating for a while.
A recursive diff of a "broken" install dir and a freshly untarred one
shows this:
Binary files mozilla.broken/component.reg and mozilla/component.reg differ
Only in mozilla.broken/chrome: chrome.rdf
diff -r mozilla.broken/components/xpti.dat mozilla/components/xpti.dat
5c5
< 1,AppDir,/home/quenelle/src/netscape/moz-apr26-s26/mozilla
---
> 1,AppDir,/builds/client/sol26/seamonkey/mozilla/dist/bin
...
...
...
Many more diffs that I can supply if they seem important.
The first few are just updated install paths, most of
the diffs are just different numbers (timestamps or hashes)

This bug has been fixed for mozilla1.0 branch, but is pretty complicated. I
suggest you confirm this fix makes your problem go away.
