On a 4K monitor with Touch density browser theme the tab close animations are very janky/jerky. It is not visible normal or compact themes.

This behaviour started a few days ago.

This has been reproduced with a new blank profile.

This has been reproduced at 1080p resolution by a Mozillazine user:

http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?p=14770534#p14770534

I am using Win 10 x64 and the x64 nightly browser. My platform has an Intel i5-4670 CPU and an AMD HD 7790 GPU. See attachment about:support output.
Easy STR:

1. Switch to Touch Mode Density in 'Customize'.

2. Open a few Tabs.

3. Close the tabs before the last tab on the bar.

Observe the jank. Its much less pronounced in other tab density modes. But very noticeable in Touch Mode.
Priority: -- → P2
This happens on 57b8 too.
The test build from Bug 1397092 (High Cpu/GPU usage due to "Ping Pong" loading indicators in Firefox 57 affecting browser performance) comment #221 seems to fix this bug:

Let's see how this looks when patches from 1397092 or 1406414 land (AFAICT, they haven't yet).
Bug 1406414 has landed, can you test if things are any better in the latest nightly, timbugzilla?

It's a bit better, but still not smooth. Normal density UI is much, much smoother still.

Yes, can confirm The tab sliding animation janks. Profile of 5 closed tabs:

any chance this makes into ESR60?

This is still reproducible on the latest Firefox Nightly 97 version for me on Windows 10 x64, 1920x1080 resolution. The close tab animation is jankier with Touch density compared to Normal density. Updating the severity to current values.

Severity: major → S3
