Currently, the information for which file and URL types Mozilla should be the
system's default is stored in the Windows registry (on my machine in
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Mozilla\Desktop). This information is deleted upon
uninstall and hence no longer available after going to a new version.
If those preferences were in prefs.js the would stay the same for updates. For a
work-around see http://piology.org/mozilla/of-the-day.html which would also
improve dramatically with this enhancement.
This enhancement would also ease bug 131106.

System setting should be stored in system "storage" for them, otherwise how system would know about what it should use? Closing as invalid

I believe the original complaint was that these prefs get wiped so they should be stored in BOTH places and synched with the system storage when appropriate.

Possibly, but as nobody else for 10 years step in and say that this feature would be useful, nor implement it, I think that it's better close this one :)

Since these days you don't have to uninstall and reinstall SeaMonkey to update, I don't think my original request is required anymore.
