User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:52.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/52.0 Build ID: 20170921064520 Steps to reproduce: Good day. This will be an unusual one for you, as most "Thunderbird Url" bugs have to do with Tunderbird NOT opening URLs in Firefox as expected. This time, I am asking if we could have the facility to open URLs inside Thunderbird on purpose. Specifically, I read News Feeds and some of those are formatted the same as the actual web page they link to, that is, they are multiple pages/urls long (The Register, I am looking at you). So at the bottom of the news article we have a URL for "Page 2" etc. Actual results: Right now clicking those URLs takes us out of Thunderbird and starts the browser. I would like to be able to right-click and select "Open in Thunderbird." This is not limited to The Register of course, there are LOTS of News Feeds that have "pages." On some of them we have a little javascript (a dropdown menu of pages) that we can use to open the other pages inside TB, but clicking plain URLs -always- takes us out of TB. Expected results: Please consider adding "Open in Thunderbird" to the context menu of URLs. I looked for an AddOn that did this and could not find. Hell, I'd like an address-bar in TB, but I understand why we don't have one. A right-click choice would be wonderful. Thank you.
There are add-ons that do something like this, like "WebApp Tabs" or "Total Message". Alta88 (CC'ed) knows more about this area.
Target Milestone: --- → Thunderbird 58.0
TotalMessage http://totalmessage.mozdev.org/ does this, links can be opened in a content tab and once there will allow 'browsing', ie following links and back/forward. It does a lot of other things (replaces CompactHeader extension) and may be too heavy. Should this be in Tb natively? Sure. Likely some would lobby against with "Tb is not a browser".

Good day. I looked (but did not test) at WebApps. It sounds like it could work, but will open another TAB when I click "Page2" rather than reload the current TAB (I can live with this I guess). I will try this out later. TotalMessage is not hosted on AMO, but I would never have found it anyway as opening web pages inside TB is a "side feature" - this thing replaces the entire TB XUL with custom code. Just reading what it does gives me a headache lol. But thanks for pointing it out. I'll try the simpler WebApps first :-) I will go have a look at bug 318104. Best Regards,
WebApps-Tab only opens pre-selected websites in a TAB, e.g. Open Facebook from a button. Looks like TotalMessage is the only option, but I am not willing to replace the entire message pane just so I can have a right-click option on URLs.
