Want × to display in title bar in all OSes

Many platforms can natively display the × character in their title bar.
However some OSes (such as Mac OS 9) just display a ?. I am guessing that this
is because the MacRoman translation does not translate \u00d7. I would like
\u00d7 translated to a lower case x (0x78) in all charsets that don't support
×

I can see 'x' on MacOSX.

I'm marking this as verified as dup. In fact I don't see this problem on my Mac
system.
