Details
From Bugzilla Helper: User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.0rc1) Gecko/20020417 BuildID: 2002041711 On wintel, when you get new mail you (most of the time) get a new mail icon on the taskbar. When you read mail (most of the time) the icon dissapears. There's really three problems here, and they may or may not be related. Problem 1: There are two different icons that appear, apparently selected at random, one is an envelope like icon, the other is a yellow triangle with an exlamation point. Problem 2: The icon(s) don't always appear when you get a new mail notification (the popup & wave seem to work every time). Problem 3: The icon(s) don't always dissapear when you read your new mail. I havn't yet been able to determine any pattern to any of these problems... Reproducible: Sometimes Steps to Reproduce: 1.See description 2. 3. Actual Results: See description Expected Results: See description

Problem #1 : dup of 134745 Problem #3 : dup of 133130. Which dup for this bug ? 134745 or 133130 ?
Win2K SP3 Moz 2002081419 Grey Modern skin The taskbar icon as consistent but buggy. The unread mail icon in the taskbar doesn't go away until I've selected the inbox of the account where the mail originally arrived. Since Since I filter my messages into various folders in my Local Folders and read them there, I must access the empty inbox specifically to make the taskbar icon go away. The account icon behaves in the same way. The little green arrow only goes away by accessing the inbox. r. vva

I use IMAP with SpamAssassin on the server. I have Mozilla delete mails that have the "X-Spam: YES" header. My IMAP folder settings are to just flag deleted messages. If the only mail I have received is spam and it is deleted, there are no unread messages in my inbox, yet the green diamond stays. This feature was a lot less buggy in 1.1 (it got stuck once in a while), now with the 1.2 release the green diamond stays around until I click the envelope button. This is on a Linux machine.

Both of the suggested duplicates in comment 1 have been fixed. There have been numerous fixes to notification since the last comment in this bug; are any of the symptoms in the original report still a problem with current (1.3 or 1.4) builds?
