User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.11; rv:59.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/59.0
Build ID: 20171205123322
Steps to reproduce:
Could not reproduce
Actual results:
I updated Nightly last night, 12/4/17 and it crashed, Icon changed, would get an error that it could not open, no error number. Rebooted computer, no change. Downloaded again and tried to reinstall, message to remove old one and reinstall from new. Have had a few times in the past that update failed, but was able to finally update it. This is the first time Nightly stop working altogether. No problems with Nightly after removing and reinstalling.
Mac Yosemite OS computer and not the computer I am using to submit bug report.
Expected results:
Should have updated and asked to relaunch
Severity: normal → critical

Platform: OS X 10.11.6 (Security Update 2017-005)
Build ID: 20171204234137
This sounds similar to my experience: a failed update results in almost empty FirefoxNightly.app.
The error:
org.mozilla.updater[13239]: NSInvalidArgumentException: launch path not accessible.
Actual results:
- Install Security Update 2017-005 for Mac OS X 10.11.6 (computer restarts)
- Launch Firefox Nightly
- Tabs from resumed session load to blank white page (strange)
- Click update and restart Nightly
- Browser does not come back up
The FirefoxNightly.app has a NO symbol overlay indicating it is not executable. Opening it produces error: 'You can't open the application "FirefoxNightly.app" because it may be damaged or incomplete.'
Examining the contents of FirefoxNightly.app all files are missing, except for:
FirefoxNightly.app
└── Contents
└── Resources
├── defaults
│ └── pref
│ └── channel-prefs.js
└── update-settings.ini
system.log:
Dec 8 09:27:09 iMac org.mozilla.updater[13239]: NSInvalidArgumentException: launch path not accessible
Dec 8 09:28:36 iMac com.apple.xpc.launchd[1] (org.mozilla.nightly.772192[13258]): Could not find and/or execute program specified by service: 2: No such file or directory: /Applications/FirefoxNightly.app/Contents/MacOS/firefox
Expected results:
Browser relaunches after update.
Note:
I attempted to reinstall Nightly but that was broken too:
- Download Firefox Nightly 59.0a1 (BuildId 20171207235447)
- Move to /Applications
- Launch
- 'Verifying "FirefoxNightly.app"...'
- Error: '"FirefoxNightly.app" is damaged and can't be opened. You should move it to the Trash.'
I'll reboot and try older nightlies and report back.

Red herrings:
I rebooted and the previously downloaded Nightly now launched correctly.
The tab restoring issue appears to be a problem with the extension Dormancy. Tabs don't load on activation or reload, but only navigating from the address bar.

Hello,
I'm not sure, but this issue might be a dupe of bug 1420210. Also, the behavior described in comment 1, sounds like a dupe of bug 1423856.
For now, I'm gonna close this issue as a duplicate of bug 1420210 but after the fix is deployed, if you don't mind retesting and report back the results, we'll know if this was the root cause for the encountered issue.
