Also sent the same test message to my gmail account. Actual results: It appears in Thunderbird as Dear >From time It appears in gmail without the ">". Expected results: The ">" symbol should not have appeared when the email was viewed in Thunderbird since it was not in the original message. Note: email composed in gmail with the same text and sent to my earthlink account appears in Thunderbird without the ">". There must be something in the MailChimp email that causes this problem in Thunderbird.

Escaping From with a > is standard mbox behaviour in plain text mail. Either this bug is invalid or at best a duplicate.

This problem originally occurred in an email whose text started with Dear neighbor, From time to time...
