Clicking link, apparently linking to https://arxiv.org/pdf/1512.01000.pdf in text More information about XMM-Newton’s observation is available in “X-ray emission from the Wolf-Rayet bubble NGC 688. II. XMM-Newton EPIC observations,” by J. Toalá et al. (2016). at bottom of page http://m.esa.int/spaceinimages/Images/2017/12/Crescent_nebula starts opening new tabs in quick succession. The URL of these tabs is file:///tmp/mozilla_adrian0/1512.01000.pdf All I can do is close Browser quickly with CTRL+Q to stop the frenzy. I have seen this behavior on another web page before, the common theme being a link to PDF, which I clicked.
Under Settings->General->Applications I have chosen Content Type | Action Portable Document Format (PDF) | Use firefox
Content Type | Action Portable Document Format (PDF) | Preview in Nightly works fine, but "use firefox" should not burn unsuspecting users that badly
Summary: Some links to PDF start opening empty new tabs to no end when clicked → Settings "Use firefox" to open PDF causes endless opening of new empty tabs when clicking such links
