User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.3; Win64; x64; rv:57.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/57.0
Build ID: 20171206182557
Steps to reproduce:
Configure Firefox with Sync on.
Disable Android global "Auto-Sync".
Go to Firefox Sync menu and tap "Sync now" (Which is grayed).
Actual results:
No sync. Message displayed alerting me to enable Android global auto-sync.
Expected results:
Firefox Sync should work with manual "sync now" press and not rely on the global "auto-sync" option being enabled.

I feel like this was reported once before, and that it is system and version dependent. That is, the various flag combinations behave differently depending on Android version and vendor customizations. If "stock Android" doesn't allow Sync Now with the default setting, that's an issue. But "auto-sync" has meant "allow syncing" in some versions, and that can't (as far as I know) be worked around.
At one point, we complained to the user if this was the case, but I think we removed that from the status activity 'cuz it wasn't consistent (for the same reasons as above!).

Thanks for reporting!
This should be resolved as part of Bug 802749 - specifically, see https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=802749#c45 and https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=802749#c49 for some context.
Could you re-test this either with a Beta version or Nightly? If you're still seeing this issue in those versions, please feel free to re-open this ticket.

I updated to 58.0 and the bug is still there.
Hamburger -> Settings -> Firefox Account -> "Sync is set up, but not syncing automatically. Toggle "auto-sync data" in the menu of Android Settings > Accounts.". The Sync Now button is grayed out.
(Yes, I have global auto-sync off. Intentionally. I should be able to sync manually without needing to toggle global syncs -- just as I have my mail application set to check for new only when I want to and not constantly.)

That's a bug then, thanks for double checking!

Triage: this should be a pretty trivial fix (see patches in Bug 802749 for a jumping off point).
