From Bugzilla Helper: User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.0.0+) Gecko/20020504 BuildID: 2002050408 Ever since some time after Netscape 6.2 (I think), the options for specifying where sent, drafts, and templates have been reset. If I choose the folders, click OK, then return to the dialog, the options are reset again (copies are not being saved either). I've had the profile since the first Netscape 6 release, imported from Netscape 4, and haven't had any problems until recently. (It's a POP account.) A profile I just created today (an IMAP account), seems to function properly. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.I go to Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings 2.I then go to the Copies & Folders section 3.Change the folders 4.Click OK 5.Cry Actual Results: Nothing, it's as if I didn't do anything. Expected Results: Remember the settings!
in Mozilla 1.1 (Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.1) Gecko/20020826) it seems to work correctly (all changes are remembered) BUT: i can't delete the needless folders. all of my accounts are set to save sent mails, drafts and templates in the local folders subdirectories ("local/sent" etc, but i can't delete the unused folders ( "accountname/sent" etc). if i delete them from the filesystem they are recreated. one exeption: after changing the setting the first time since the creation of the account the special icons in front of drafts, templates and sent in the change to "normal" folder icons and i can delete them. (that's how it should be after fixing this bug), BUT after restarting mozilla the folders are recreated and i can't delete them again, although they're not used.
see that on Linux (1.4RC1)

Is there any hope to this being resolved before 1.5rc1 becomes released. I just downloaded and installed 1.5rc1 and the Copies & Folders settings still are not being saved.
incidentally this is on linux....
on Win32: I had a single profile, and copies were saved. I added a second profile, and it appears that is when it stopped saving copies. This error exists in both profiles.
I am using WinXP and have been seeing this bug for a long time... no matter what settings I make under "Copies & Folders" under any of my accounts, as soon as I click OK and then re-open the settings, everything has been erased back to the state it was in before; as a result, I am unable to save copies of any outgoing messages. I am using Win32 build 2003102504, with single profile that contains three separate POP accounts.
Isn't it DUPE of Bug 2654? "Know Issues"/"Messenger (Mail and News)"/"General Mail and News Issues" section of "Release Note" of almost releases of Mozilla refers to this longlived bug. ( http://www.mozilla.org/releases/mozilla1.5/known-issues.html#mail ) > In the Mail/News Account Settings: Server Settings dialog box, > any changes you make to local directory settings won't take effect > until you exit and restart Mozilla (Bug 2654)
No, its not a dupe because restarting still does not save the preferences. It seems as if the changes are not being written to the disk in the first place... I tried changing preferences, clicking OK then immediately closing and restarting the browser; nothing changed. There is no work-around for this that I can come up with, and I think it is a serious issue because unless you consciously think to add a .cc to yourself, you lose the all-important "paper trail" that you need in alot of business affairs these days...
meniscus, do you use "Quick Launch"? If yes, did you terminate "Quick Launch"?
No, I don't use QuickLaunch. Also, if I make changes, then immediately re-open the same dialog box, the preferences are already reset...
(Q1) What will happen on shutdown/restart Mozilla just after Copies & Folders settings change, without re-open preference again? (Q2) Is directry you specified already defined directry? If no, are there any difference when directry is defined before change?
confirming with 1.5 final, no quickstart, doesnt save no matter what. anyone know what to manually insert in prefs.js, cause this is making mozilla mail useless to my customers (7 of 90 have that problem)
I have also experienced this bug. After reading some of the notes or related bug reports, I added a bogus acount and was able to save the configuration for 'Copies & Folders' successfully. After adding the bogus account, I also noticed that there was now an account called "LOCAL FOLDERS" (which had not been present after my original installation). I believe that the problem may have to do with the installation procedure that automatically transfers some of the information from an existing Netscape 4.79 configuration to Mozilla.
atleast 4 i can verify were also imported from ns 4.79 !
Don Moldover, your problem seems to be Bug 224699. See Bug 224699 : Mail configuration is broken after converting a netscape profile
hmm, my problem is bug 224699 as well then, creating local folders fixed it

I have the same with Mozilla 1.6 release under WinXP Pro. I started using Mozilla with 1.5, where I created all my email accounts i am using now in one Mozilla profile. After installing 1.6 no mory copy was made of any email sent. Additionally, I have another "phenomenon" with my accounts. When adding a new email account, the data of the new account are being written into that account, which is the last in the tree. Both facts indicate that there must be a mess in the way account information is stored, though I cannot suggest where, at all.
Finally, I found a work-around for this problem: 1. Enter url "about:config" 2. Reset all keys "mail.identity.id1.fcc_folder", "mail.identity.id2.fcc_folder", ... to "mail.identity.id#n#.fcc_folder" (Right mouse click, reset) 3. In fact, I did the same with "mail.identity.id#n#.draft_folder" and "mail.identity.id1.stationary_folder". After that, I was able to change the Copies & Folders preferences, again. And the cause? I guess, one of the values was invalid, why ever, since it was not invalid before upgrading to 1.6. And make not mistake about it ;-), I am unhappy about all the lost outgoing emails, since I never checked the Sent-Folder until a few days ago. I was foolish enough to trust software, though such a good one.
It's possible this bug is the same issue as bug 221386 -- same symptom, I don't know if it's the same cause. See bug 221386 comment 1 (and compare to comment 18 in this bug).
I installed 1.7b yesterday and since then copies of my sent messages are not being saved in the sent folder. I have removed and re-installed, check settings, etc. I will go back to 1.6 and see if it still works
I ran into the same problem and comment #18 solved it for me. I think I might know what happend. I changed some of my IMAP accounts to point to a new server. Then the "Copies & Folders" settings for my newsgroup account where not updated. Maybe this is what happened.

(In reply to comment #5) Tim emailed me: {{ Yes, its no longer a problem in Thunderbird. }}
Is this still existing? There seems to be the same problem filed for Thunderbird in bug 557030.
Depends on: 557030
(In reply to :aceman from comment #23) > Is this still existing? > There seems to be the same problem filed for Thunderbird in bug 557030. no response. I think we can call this WFM.
