If I read a mail which has the original mail contents as inline with the gray bar at the left side, the text is not readable. It's white characters on white background. This happened with Mozilla 1.0 RC1 and RC2. Please give me a mailaddress and I'll send you a screen dump. Cheers Detlef.

Detlef Schmier, is this bug still a problem for you? Have you updated to a more recent version of Mozilla (1.3 or 1.4)?

Bug 133741 resulted in a specific color being used for quoted text in replies; that bug was opened shortly before this one, and fixed shortly after this was opened, so perhaps this bug is a dupe of that. Bug 152144 complains that the specific color (blue) is hardcoded, not a preference; there is a workaround for that issue in the bug.
