Based on posts to bug 132440 and bug 132755, many users are unhappy with the behavior of the download manager. Suddenly manual intervention is required to clear out the "download history", which never existed before. As this creates a problem which is not experienced with other browsers, I am setting the severity to normal rather than enhancement. My suggestion is to allow automatic purging by date, similar to browser history. Three basic choices in the pref panel would be: 1. Retain indefinitely until manually deleted. 2. Retain for a specified number of days. 3. Discard immediately. Optional 4. Retain until end of session. I believe this would eliminate the biggest complaints about the download manager other than the display preferences, which is Bug 132440.
