Gmail redesign launched (enable via cog menu if you don't see it) and will probably soon roll out to all users. It seems to behave flaky on some hover and focus interactions. Performance-wise it also seems to behave slightly sluggish. There might be more issues of those sorts. We should to run a manual QA audit and file webcompat bugs; when we'll then can send as a prioritized report to the Gmail team.
Priority: -- → P1
Sergiu, Oana, can the both of you spend some time investigating the new Gmail redesign in Firefox, comparing with Chrome please? Please file bugs on webcompat.com and give them all a label like `type-gmail-redesign` (or whatever), so we can group them. Thanks!

Started a meta bug 1465227
Blocks: 1465227
Hey all, We took the new Gmail for a spin, and compared the Firefox Nightly 62 version to the Chrome Release 66 and Chrome Canary 69 version. We couldn't find anything broken or different (even in terms of performance). Tested areas: - Home screen - Compose screen - Main Menu functionality - Hangouts section - Add-ons section - Settings - Themes - Features (Snooze, Star) - Notifications - Search

Sergiu, can you test whether keyboard focus behaves flaky for you in the main message list? For example: 1. In Settings, enable enhanced keyboard shortcuts. 2. Go to the main message list, arrow up and down through the list and mark one or two with the letter x. 3. Press the pound sign (may be different on your keyboard) # to delete the selected conversations (trash). In the old design, focus would then go to the next conversations above or below the deleted one(s). In the new design, I frequently get focus losses in Firefox when I do the above steps. This is a common workflow for me. Can you reproduce these issues at all?

There is a scrollbar on the right of the screen at all time even when not necessary (the same problem is present in Google Drive). Note that this issue is also reproducible in other browsers (i.e. Edge). May be related to the way scrollbars are handled in Gecko.
I see a number of problems: - permanent horizontal scrollbars, and generally wider scrollbars than Chrome. - the blue border on the left of the currently highlighted message seems slightly broken - message labels appear to have an unnecessary border/outline when shown on top of an opened message - nitpick: the four quick actions (archive, delete, mark as read, snooze) that appear when hovering over a message in the message list seem to appear slightly slower in Firefox than in Chrome: a performance audit to determine what's going on would be great.
Andreas, could you attach some screenshots when you get a chance? I'm guessing the wider scrollbars issue is ::-webkit-scrollbar, the old gmail had a similar issue: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=852146#c16 (see also bug 1432935)

In reply to https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1463777#c4 After enabling "Custom keyboard shortcuts" from the Settings - Advanced screen, the describes STR are not working on my side. Note: "x" is mapped as "Select conversation" in the Settings - Keyboard Shortcuts screen. Tested on Windows 10 and Firefox Nightly 63.0a1 (2018-07-03) (64-bit), clean profile.

(In reply to Sergiu Logigan [:sergiu] from comment #8) > After enabling "Custom keyboard shortcuts" from the Settings - Advanced > screen, the describes STR are not working on my side. Then you are probably also seeing bug 1471848. It's been plaguing some of us for a week now, in both new and old designs, while others could not reproduce at all.

Attaching some screenshots. The permanent horizontal scrollbar occurs in all themes. However, the label outline issue and the broken blue highlight issue only occur when the "High contrast" theme is selected.
