This is not the case from the search bar, though, and :Gijs suggested a new bug be filed to consider making the search bar consistent with this behavior. Says he: "Could you file a separate issue, and we can work out if it's fixable there? IIRC there are some other subtleties with how search behaves (e.g. defaults for whether tabs open in the foreground or not when you use the page context menu to search are governed by a different pref to the one governing "normal" links opened in tabs)." (Alt-enter and then switching back is not convenient.)
