From Bugzilla Helper: User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.1a) Gecko/20020611 BuildID: 2002061104 The most recent build of Shockwave flash is 8.5.1. When trying to view the shockwave.com homepage, it reports that I need to download and install this shockwave plugin. I do so, and the installer reports a successful installation, as well as Mozilla reporting that the plugin is active. When I go back to the Shockwave home page, it either routes me back to the download/install shockwave page, or else loads the front page with errors on all of the shockwave elements. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Go to http://www.shockwave.com 2. Download and install the most recent version of Shockwave. 3. Go back to http://www.shockwave.com Actual Results: I was re-routed to the "install shockwave" page. Expected Results: Mozilla should have loaded the shockwave home page and run the shockwave plugins. I was using the "modern" theme at the time, but it seems doubtful this would affect the problem. My computer has no problems running shockwave plugins through my other browser (IE 5.5).
u did not mention if your browser was ever restarted in this process? shockwave restarts the browser and completes registration bef ore u can play any content. Did this happen in your case? If your browser did not restart..u have to refresh the plugins list by loading "about:plugins" page in the url bar. let me know.
Did this. Still doesn't work. My best guess is, Mozilla 1.1a is not shockwave compatable. Which it should be.
oh yeah..mozilla might not be. I should have remembered (am using netscape build)...so the only workaround for u is to manually drop the dll (np32dsw.dll) in plugins folder and then use it. marking wfm..

Ian, Did u make sure u did not have quicklaunch ON while u did this? The plugins list might not get refreshed if u do have this ON. There's a bug already existing in bugzilla for that issue. Let me know and pls check this again. This certainly works on my 618 branch build with 8.5.1 installer for shockwave.
No, I don't have quicklaunch on. The plugins list is updated, the .dll you mentioned is in the folder and is listed in about:plugins. I have also rebooted my computer several times, with no effect. Something related to Mozilla 1.1a is causing the plugin not to function. Re-opening bug... it may work for you, but it still doesn't wok for me, despite all of your suggestions. I repeat, the plugin is installed and active, but not functioning.

Ian, Please attach a copy/pasted text output from your about:plugins page to this bug. Please also visit this page: http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/welcome/ You should see two animations: the top one is Shockwave the bottom one is Flash. Do you see those?
Okay, I just went through the song and dance of installing Flash in Mozilla and I think I know what's going on. First off, here's a link to the handy Flash 6 XPI: ftp://ftp.netscape.com/pub/netscape7/english/7.0_PR1/windows/win32/xpi/flash.xpi To reproduce this bug, rename or more npswf32.dll out all your plugins folders. You can use the XPI for install. Do not vist about:plugins after installing, do no restart the browser, do not do a plugins.refresh(). The fix to bug 143178 should kick-in when you re-vist Shockwave.com. Before the default plugin fires again, we automagically refresh plugins. Notice the banner up top is now Flash instead of the default plugin. However, the Javascript didn't detect Flash so it says to the user it's not installed and gives a link to download. This is very confusing because the page says Flash is not installed yet it is working on that page! Furthermore, one would think reloading the page would fix it, but it does not. Alas, that is bug 150087. In this situation, if you opened up another browser window and tried to visit shockwave.com, it should work. I'm marking this as a dup of bug 150087 because that fix should fix this situation. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 150087 ***

Thanks for your help.
