Over the last few months, I've been seeing a lot of new contributors trying to do things with arc and generally getting not succeeding - especially when trying to submit multiple patches.
Since moz-phab
seems to be the preferred way forward, and certainly works a lot better in a lot of cases, please could we remove the references to arc?
Even thought there's comments like The preferred and officially supported ways to submit patches are via our custom command-line tool, moz-phab
, I think people aren't necessarily reading those.
Sections like Setting up Arcanist
should really be Setting up moz-phab
with a sub-section to install and set-up arcanist. We could probably also remove the Arcanist User Guide
- if people really want to use Arcanist, they'll find the docs.
Bug 1525284 is dealing with some of this, but I think there's more could be done in the general documentation flow to simplify and clarify it.
bug 1529176 will change the arc setup flow; let's revisit this once that lands.

In-tree, we have at least this occurrence:
https://searchfox.org/mozilla-central/source/devtools/docs/contributor/getting-started/setting-up-mozilla-central-for-macOS.md
which doesn't seem to be online and duplicating a lot
https://firefox-source-docs.mozilla.org/contributing/contribution_quickref.html
Honza, can we just remove it from the doc/tree?
thanks

Sorry for the delay. Yes, this can be removed, the file isn't even used, so it's safe.
