P3 since the shutdown crash isn't frequent. cc cache experts who may have a quick fix.

The recent spike in crashes are happening in GTK code, not the original reason for which this bug was filed. Martin, could this be a regression from the recent changes you made? This is a crash with a very good stack trace.
