Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_14_5) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/74.0.3729.169 Safari/537.36

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Launch Thunderbird 60.7.1 (current latest release version) on macOS (10.14.5)
  2. Open address book window
  3. Select a contact
  4. Click the delete button or press the "del" key
  5. Click "OK" in the delete confirmation dialog

Actual results:

Confirmation dialog goes away, address book is redrawn and scrolls back to the top. Scroll down to the contact and you'll find that it's still there.

Expected results:

The contact actually gets deleted.

Restarting Thunderbird does not fix the problem

Is it a Mac address book?

Wayne is right, in general you can delete contacts, but not those coming from the Mac address book.

Yes, the record in question was a Mac address book entry. I'm a long-time user of Thunderbird on the Mac, and I didn't realize that it was unable to handle that. Until support is added for modifying the Mac address book from within Thunderbird I think that Thunderbird should at the very least present an error message explaining why it cannot delete an entry, instead of failing silently.
