User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/76.0.3809.132 Safari/537.36

Steps to reproduce:

Clicking on the THunderbird Manager, Lightning plugin, says I have Version 68.0 last updated on August 31, 2019. Lightning itself is on 68.1.0 version and was updated 09/12/2019.

This is an intermittent issue. Shutting down Thunderbird and restarting often causes the Today Pane section to show up as empty even if calendar events are scheduled. Other times rebooting causes the Today Pane to show up correctly.

Messages sent to the support discussion group have not turned up a resolution; however, other users confirm the issue exists for them as well.

Actual results:

Starting Thunderbird and clicking on the Today Pane button in the lower right corner opens the Today Pane, but the Calendar Events section is blank most of the time; even when events are scheduled for today and the next few days.

Occasionally, the Today Pane will open and display the scheduled events as expected; but, this is becoming a rare occurrence. Shutting down and restarting Thunderbird does not seem to change the behavior. I have attached a screen shot of the Today Pane as illustration of the issue (I have calendar events for today and the next few days which are not shown).

Expected results:

The Today Pane should open and display the calendar events scheduled for the next few days.

I was on Thunderbird 68.0 when I reported this issue. When I updated to TB 68.1.0 and restarted TB, the Today Pane displayed the calendar entries as expected. This does not mean the update fixed the issue, as restarting TB 68.0 would also sometimes get the Today Pane to display as expected. It just means that in the few minutes since I've done the update, I haven't been able to reproduce the issue.
