Please see the attached screen shot. The orange colored underline in the tab is side by side with the blue border of the expanded address bar. These two colors next to each other makes the appearance of the tab different to how it normally looks. It is harder to distinguish the orange color and thus a bit annoying to use as the address bar is sometimes expanded, and sometimes not. I am used to one color, and when it changes like that (it isn't really changing, but it looks like it), it breaks my flow using multiple contextual tabs. It also doesn't look good.

I would expect that another colored border would not be placed so close to a thin colored strip, for accessibility and UX reasons.

Can we reduce the extent of the expanding of the address bar, or in some other way prevent these colors from being drawn so close to each other?

This is something that may be addressed later on with project flourish (a holistic reassessment of Firefox UI). I don't think this is something that the search team should address now though.
