Details

(Whiteboard: [necko-triaged][trr])

Environment
Build: Fenix Nightly 191202 (Build #13360607) and GeckoView 72.0a1-20191129094247
Devices: Google Pixel 3a XL(Android 9), Samsung Galaxy Note9(Android 8)

Pre-requisites:

  • Have multiple DNS suffixes added for the wi-fi network connection: example.com and reddit.com.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Disconnect the device from the wi-fi connection.
  2. Reconnect device to the wi-fi connection.
  3. Open Fenix.
  4. Tap on the URL bar, insert "about:networking" and search after it.
  5. Tap on the "DNS" section.
  6. Inspect the details from the "DNS suffix" list.

Expected Result:
All the DNS suffixes present for the wi-fi connection are displayed in about:networking#dns.

Actual Result:
Only one DNS suffix is present for the wi-fi connection in about:networking#dns. It seems that only the last added one.

Please check the screenshot.

Valentin, can you please have a look at this and set priority?

Hi Diana,

Could you also provide some info into how the suffixes are set on the network - type of network, make of the router, or if using ICS how it was set up.

We get the suffixes with a call into the Android APIs, so I don't know if it's in our ability to change the way the suffix list is parsed. But we should get as much info as possible about why this is happening, and maybe mitigate it if there is a way to do that.

Hi, i will close this ticket as Invalid, because the configuration for DHCP does not seem to allow multiple DNS suffixes for the router in use. It only allows only one search domain at time.

Hi, i will close this ticket as Invalid, because the configuration for DHCP does not seem to allow multiple DNS suffixes for the router in use. It only allows only one search domain at time.

Thank you for the info, Diana. From what I understand, it was a router issue, where setting multiple DNS suffixes only actually set the last one in DHCP, yes?

Hi, I will reopen the bug as it seems that we managed to add the 2 DNS suffixes for the DHCP configuration.

Did a recheck after the configuration was made with the 2 DNS suffixes: example.com and reddit.com with Google Pixel 3a XL (Android 9) but in Fenix Nightly this 2 DNS suffixes are not displayed.
Please view the available screenshot.

Summary: Not all DNS suffixes are present in about:networking#dns → When network connections have multiple DNS suffixes, the DNS Suffix list in about:networking#dns is empty.

Hi, the issue reproduces on Firefox Preview Beta 3.2.0-beta.3 GV: 73.0-20200123180644 with Google Pixel 3a XL (Android 9).
Note: The issue does not reproduce when there is only one DNS suffix set for the internet connection.

Only affects Android. Multiple DNS suffixes are uncommon. Moving to P3.
