STS is a mechanism for server owners to force clients to use a secure connection when said connection can be established properly.

In our case this means indirectly disregarding user choice, though I think that's the case for most clients. And same goes for mechanisms like HSTS. This still seems reasonable, especially since it makes it much easier for users to end up with a secure connection, without having to dig for the right ports etc.
