Hi, Turning off my laptop yesterday afternoon resulted in some weird stuff happening with Mozilla v1.0. Whenever I startup Mozilla now I receive the pop up error window: 'Configuration Warning' 'An error occurred reading the startup configuration file. Please contact your administrator.' 'line 367: SyntaxError: unterminated string literal. user_pref("timebomb.first_launch_time","10274' I like the administrator bit... I am the administrator, and got no idea! De-installed Moz v1.0 nicely, deleted the entire directory structure, re-installed. Same thing. De-installed Moz v1.0 nicely, deleted the directory, into regedit, blew away everything to do with "moz" and "mozilla", downloaded v1.1, installed nicely and still get the same error. What it is doing though is every time upon startup Mozilla creates a new profile. It is not reading the already created one. So, after five startups, and five pop-up error messages, I would have five newly created profiles etc, so any previous email in another profile cannot be read. My work around is to use another PC to read older email, and to fix it on my laptop will of course be to blow away NT and do a full OS re-install. How to start this bug rolling?, got no idea. Maybe turning off a computer with NT, with Moz running. Moz was closed and NT was shutdown when I turned my lapo off yesterday. Did a quick search within bugzilla for "367", "10274", "timebomb.first_launch_time" and got no results. cheers, Dave.

Over to 'Browser-General' as this has nothing to do with building mozilla.

-> B-g Your Profile prefs file is corrupt. You can do this : a) search the file "prefs.js" in your profile. (the Profile is in the OS user Directory, see also the release notes for the path) search the line and try to fix the error. b) close mozilla and run "mozilla -profilemanager" and create a new profile

dupe of bug 161256? > What it is doing though is every time upon startup Mozilla creates a > new profile. It is not reading the already created one. seems to match bug 161256 comment 9
Summary: "Configuration Warning" bug → "Configuration Warning" bug (profile recreated, corrupt prefs.js)
Additional note on bug. This bug appears when loading Netscape, version 7.0 as well as the previous version of Netscape, but not Internet Explorer. I eliminated the bug by completely reinstalling Windows 2000. While this works, it hardly seems to be the ideal solution. Sam J. Singer
reporter: can you reproduce this bug with a recent build of mozilla (for example, 1.2beta)? if so, please comment again with details. if not, please resolve this bug as WORKSFORME. thanks.
> a) search the file "prefs.js" in your profile. > (the Profile is in the OS user Directory, see also the > release notes for the path) Deleting prefs.js, and re-running Moz 1.0 and 1.1 fixed both the pop-up error, along with Mozilla creating multiple profiles. This was some time ago, and I have not had the problem since. [Apologies for the delay in replying and for posting this within Netscape 7, and not Mozilla]

great. thanks for the response. however, this should have been resolved as "WORKSFORME" rather than "FIXED" (because FIXED means a bug mozilla got fixed, which isn't the case here). reopening to change that...
