if a user has selected "open tabs instead of windows for middle click", then middle clicking links in the mail viewer should open tabs in the existing browser instead of opening a new window. if more than one window is open, it'd be nice if you could open them in a browser on the current desktop--but i'm not sure if there's a common way to do that across all window managers. instead, openning them in newest windows should suffice.
