Details
(Whiteboard: [necko-triaged][trr])
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:76.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/76.0
Steps to reproduce:
Start or restart any firefox 75.0 or 76.0.1 on linux, with a few open windows and tabs.
Actual results:
There is an incessant nagging pop-up that DNS-over-HTTPS is enabled. The pop-up keeps coming back many times per firefox session, and after session restart as well. I have never been able to make it stop. Even after days and weeks of using firefox, the nagging pop-up keeps coming back.
This pop-up is the same as what is described as the "Opt-out" here:
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-dns-over-https
Expected results:
The nagging should stop after a very small number of presentation, say 1 or 5.
I have noticed that the unstoppable nag only happens on certain websites. One example is https://arxiv.org/

Bugbug thinks this bug should belong to this component, but please revert this change in case of error.

Nihanth, can you look into this?
Is this a regression?

Hi reikred, thanks for reporting this. Can you clarify whether you are interacting with the popup in any way? Or are you pointing out that the popup should not keep showing up if you don't interact with it?

So this type of pop-up is called a doorhanger? Well, I can leave the doorhanger pop-up alone, or I can dismiss it by clicking the "Ok, I got it" button. BUT after dismissing it, the popup/doorhanger will then pop back up as soon as I navigate back to the tab in question. That's why I use the phrase "nagging": The popup comes back an unlimited number of times after I have already dismissed it.

I'm looking at this bug more closely tomorrow.

This will likely be fixed by the ongoing work to convert the doorhanger to a CFR.

Hey nhnt11, which bug is that work happening in? Can we hook up a dependency?

I was going to update this soon, thanks for the nudge. This bug will be fixed as soon as the CFR gets enabled this week (code already landed in bug 1643651 and bug 1647215.
