I configured my pop3 accounts to leave the messages on server, and delete them
when i delete them on mozilla, but mozilla doesn't delete the messages.
sometimes it deletes a lot of them, but not all, sometimes it doesn't delete
anything.
I tested the same feature with evolution and outlook, and they delete ok the mails.

I think I'm having this same problem...
My server setting is configured to "Leave messages on server" and "Delete
messages on server when they are deleted or moved from inbox".
I am using:
Mozilla 1.3
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.3) Gecko/20030312
I've just moved 40 messages from inbox to a Local Folder(through a message
filter) and even after many "get msgs" this 40 emails are still on the pop server...

This is related to, and possibly a dupe of, Bug 89034 - Using filters stops
messages from being deleted on the server.
Reporter, do you have any filters enabled?
Regardless, there are many bugs with deleting POP mail from server, and they
should probably all be looked at together.

In case this is of help:
I too have the problem that messages deleted locally aren't deleted from the
server. I have 'delete messages from server turned on'. The sorts of messages
that aren't getting deleted are the ones that are larger than the 'do not
download messages larger than ...K' setting. Basically, if I get such a message,
and delete it without downloading the rest of it, it stays on the server.

If Mario Medina had this problem with filtered messages, then it is a dupe of
bug 89034. If not with filtered messages, but the messages *do* get deleted
after a subsequent Get New Messages on the server, then it is a dupe of bug
154630. Mario, please comment in this bug whether either of those bugs are the
same as this, and mark this as a duplicate if it does match.
Fabricio Zuardi almost certainly is not seeing bug 154630, since he says the
messages remain on the server even after repeated Get New Messages. If he is
not using filters, then his bug is a new bug -- if he still sees the problem at
all. (The filters issue has a workaround now, as of 1.6, since filters for POP
accounts can be configured explicitly to delete from server.)
Stefan Vorkoetter: when you say you "have 'delete messages from server turned
on'" exactly which setting are you referring to? There are two possible
settings:
[] Leave messages on server or
[] Until I delete or move them from Inbox (which corresponds to the
preference mail.server.server/X/.delete_mail_left_on_server)
According to bug 207571, if the second setting is on, then deleting the
un-downloaded messages in the UI *does* in fact delete them from the server.
If that's not the case, your symptom can still be mitigated by using the other
new feature in 1.6, the server setting to delete-from-server messages older than
XX days.

I have my mozilla mail set up to delete my mail off my server once i delete it
from my inbox, and it does...sometimes. other times it will remain on the
server when i check. it wont put it back into my mozilla inbox, but it wont
remove it from the server. its usually when i leave it in my inbox for awhile,
then delete it that it wont remove it.

This is an automated message, with ID "auto-resolve01".
This bug has had no comments for a long time. Statistically, we have found that
bug reports that have not been confirmed by a second user after three months are
highly unlikely to be the source of a fix to the code.
While your input is very important to us, our resources are limited and so we
are asking for your help in focussing our efforts. If you can still reproduce
this problem in the latest version of the product (see below for how to obtain a

you still believe we should implement it, please visit the URL of this bug
(given at the top of this mail) and add a comment to that effect, giving more
reproduction information if you have it.
If it is not a problem any longer, you need take no action. If this bug is not
changed in any way in the next two weeks, it will be automatically resolved.
