Details
According to mozregression, the script at https://jsfiddle.net/birtles/vx4urLkw/16/
started to fail when dFPI was enabled on nightly builds. Disabling dFPI in the TP preferences (not isolating cookies) confirms this.

I can also reproduce this on Safari when "Prevent cross-site tracking" is checked.
Maybe Steven has some comment?

To give context: The result is embedded in a sandboxed iframe without the allow-storage-access-by-user-activation
flag set. Thus this looks like a duplicate of Bug 1650512.
