Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.14; rv:80.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/80.0

Steps to reproduce:

Using Restart with Add-Ons Disabled, restart Thunderbird.

Actual results:

A couple of things, seemingly randomly:

  • Before any windows are displayed, the prompt to enter the master password is displayed. Before I can enter anything, the main Thunderbird window is displayed, also with a prompt to enter the master password.
  • The main Thunderbird window is displayed, the prompt to enter the master password is displayed, then another prompt to enter the master password is displayed on top of it.

Sometimes a master password prompt will get "stuck" in the background, requiring Thunderbird to be force restarted.

Note that this is a regression. Thunderbird used to do this but it was fixed a number of major versions ago, but reappeared recently (probably in 78, maybe 78.2)

Expected results:

A single master password prompt is displayed (initially, obviously it will be redisplayed if the wrong master password is entered).
