STR:

  1. Open PBM in Nightly, so that search bar handoff is enabled.
  2. Type something in the search box on about:privatebrowsing.
  3. Note that the Urlbar is focused, we entered search mode with your default engine, and your search string is inserted in the Urlbar.
  4. Blur the Urlbar.
  5. Type something in the search box on about:privatebrowsing.

Expected: The Urlbar is focused, you are in search mode with your default engine, and your second search string is inserted in the Urlbar.

Actual: The Urlbar is focused, you are in search mode with your default engine, your default engine's alias is inserted in the Urlbar in addition to your second search string.

I can't reproduce this in regular browsing mode.

I wonder if this will be fixed by your work in bug 1665076 since you're unifying the paths?

Yes, bug 1665076 fixes this. I checked both with the update2 pref enabled and disabled. I'll close this once bug 1665076 lands. I'll leave ni? for now as a reminder.
