Steps to reproduce

  1. Enable gfx.webrender.software.
  2. Log into https://people.mozilla.org/
  3. Load the Mozilla Phonebook tree view: https://people.mozilla.org/o/highlight/
  4. Scroll down the page. I'm using a scroll gesture on my Windows laptop's touchpad.

Expected result

The page should scroll smoothly like hardware-accelerated WebRender and Chrome do.

Actual result

Scrolling with sw-wr is very laggy. The scrollbar thumb moves in fits and starts. The page checkerboards.

Many pages feel less responsive when I have sw-wr enabled on my Windows laptop, but the Mozilla Phonebook tree view page is much worse than others.

Here is a profile recording me scrolling the page using my touchpad:

Here is my about:support.

Mostly in brush_linear_gradient_ALPHA_PASS_frag::brush_fs, cs_clip_rectangle_FAST_PATH_frag::run

Looks like this is already on our radar:)
