The Browser Console should have an option (true by default) that can be used to avoid fetching content messages from the server. This should reduce the amount of messages significantly and improve performance.

There are some existing reports that might be solved by fixing this:

  • Bug 1490880 - Browser Console locks up the browser under heavy load
  • Bug 1543391 - Browser slow when Browser Console opened
  • Bug 1558636 - Browser Console in background can cause 500ms+ hangs (high end MBP)
  • Bug 1558429 - Having lots of messages in the browser console causes very slow restyles
