Steps to reproduce:

Opened Firefox, on Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS.

Firefox window is scrambled. It exists at homepage and every website visited.

Safemode worked normal. Removed and reinstalled Firefox and the problem persisted. Reset Firefox and the problem persisted.

I applied the change gfx.webrender.force-disabled to true. Problem solved. (Thanks u/panoptigram on reddit.)

But when I added a new user to the OS, the problem persisted to that new user. Same solution worked on new user but this seems to be a larger problem.

Actual results:

The Firefox window was scrambled like confetti. See screenshot.

Applied change gfx.webrender.force-disabled to true.

Things went back to normal.

Expected results:

The window should look normal. Via reddit.com/r/Firefox, u/panoptigram provide me an answer.

Changed gfx.webrender.force-disabled to true. But this should be automatically detected and set to the appropriate setting.

The Bugbug bot thinks this bug should belong to the 'Core::Graphics: WebRender' component, and is moving the bug to that component. Please revert this change in case you think the bot is wrong.

Marcus, can you attach your about:support?

This looks like the same issue as bug 1679681, which should be fixed in Firefox Nightly (because of bug 1694909). Marcus, could you try downloading firefox nightly from here and seeing if the issue is fixed?

@aosmond this is the second time this bug has been filed during my triage week. If we have enabled webrender by default on affected devices we should probably fix that for 87, no? Given the fix is only in 88 (and too large and late for uplift)

This looks like the same issue as bug 1679681, which should be fixed in Firefox Nightly (because of bug 1694909). Marcus, could you try downloading firefox nightly from here and seeing if the issue is fixed?

@aosmond this is the second time this bug has been filed during my triage week. If we have enabled webrender by default on affected devices we should probably fix that for 87, no? Given the fix is only in 88 (and too large and late for uplift)

Nightly seems to work just fine.
