Steps to reproduce:
Tried to send a mail while "Check Spelling before sending" is enabled.
MacOS version
Actual results:
The whole application hung with a rotating wheel displayed (not captured by the screenshot). Had to force quit Thunderbird to recover.
Expected results:
The mail should have been spell checked and then sent.

Indeed. It is being worked on through bug 1721801
The only workaround at the moment is to disable spell check before sending.
