In bug 516362 we added a prompt to alert users to the hazards of running from DMG and ask them if they want Firefox to install itself properly and relaunch. Run-from-DMG pings are down 75% but there are still a lot of them. We would like to add some more telemetry to the error paths to figure out if any of them are frequently hit and if there is more we could do to help users.

Just a note that I did included the installed-and-relaunched reporting in my testing. See "installed_and_relaunched" in:

Data collection request
PRELIMINARY NOTES:
Did you know that Glean collections in Firefox Desktop can use mach
to generate a template data review? Try ./mach data-review 1743328
to have dumped to stdout a filled-out (to the extent it can) data review request form for this bug.
DATA COLLECTION REVIEW RESPONSE:
Is there or will there be documentation that describes the schema for the ultimate data set available publicly, complete and accurate?
Yes.
Is there a control mechanism that allows the user to turn the data collection on and off?
Yes. This collection is Telemetry so can be controlled through Firefox's Preferences.
If the request is for permanent data collection, is there someone who will monitor the data over time?
No. This collection will expire in Firefox 100.
Using the category system of data types on the Mozilla wiki, what collection type of data do the requested measurements fall under?
Category 2, Interaction.
Is the data collection request for default-on or default-off?
Default on for all channels.
Does the instrumentation include the addition of any new identifiers?
No.
Is the data collection covered by the existing Firefox privacy notice?
Yes.
Does the data collection use a third-party collection tool?
No.
