Steps to reproduce:
- Set up Windows 10 on laptop with second display:
- laptop 1920x1080, 125%
- second display 1920x1080, 100%
- second display set as main display and on the right.
- Installed Thunderbird, copy and set up existing profile.
- Used Thunderbird and laptop daily for a couple of months for various purposes, including occasionally connecting to an alternative second display, and allowing updates to Thunderbird.
- Sent myself an email.
Actual results:
New message alert sound played but notification window (bottom-right corner of screen) was not seen, or was partially off-screen (lower than it should be and Z-sorted behind the Windows task bar).
Expected results:
New message notification window should be in correct position at bottom-right corner of second display which is set as main display.
Notes:
- Thunderbird 91.4.0 (64-bit)
- Steps given are those I thought of that could be relevant. It seems something has gone wrong over time (like a saved window position having gone awry), or an update may have broken something. For a week or so now I've been hearing the audio alert but not seing the visual one. Now I've just seen it half off the screen, so it seems highly likely the reason I wasn't seeing it was because of a window positioning bug. The display set up may be enough to reproduce, or it may be something incredibly hard to pin down.

Reporter, do you still see this issue when using version 102?

I'm just updating. I'll look out for the issue with the new version, and let you know if it seems to be working fine after a few weeks, if I no longer see the problem. I think it may have been triggered by unplugging and replugging the 2nd monitor, and there is a similar issue against Firefox which is now fixed.

Agreeing with jake's assessment here -- it seems to match what we saw in bug 1749426.
